Romina Abawi-Wooten

Romina is passionate about creating a safe space where her clients can process, think aloud, and seek support in a judgement-free environment. She started her career in juvenile justice but quickly realized that she is more interested in the restorative rather than the retributive process of adolescents. She now works with clients ages 16-64 who are seeking counseling for substance abuse disorder, feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, or are stuck in unhealthy thought patterns. She is a certified Substance Abuse Counselor and specializes in Auricular Therapy.

Romina’s goal in therapy is to use a holistic model to help her clients live up to their optimal potential. She believes verbal communication is the only way our needs can be met, so healthy communication is a touchstone of her relationship with clients and is often discussed during sessions. Through psycho-education and evidence-based cognitive behavior therapy, she prioritizes building a strong rapport with her clients to evoke power and knowledge into their thoughts, feelings, and emotions through reaffirming and validating their stories.

Romina was raised in Ontario, Canada and later moved to Virginia as a young teen, a challenging transition that inspired her to work with at-risk youth and in therapeutic setting. Her mantra is movement is medicine and enjoyed HIIT workouts.
